Six people including a mother and her daughter, were killed and at least 14 others sustained injuries in a collision between two trucks at a hilly area of Ruma-Boga Lake road in Bandarban today noon.
The deceased were identified as Nuntarmoi Bawm, 35, Limmoi Bawm, 23, Jinghom Bawm, 45,Lalvarkim Bawm, 40, her daughter Jingtathsiam Bawm, 15, and the truck helper Hlagya Khyang 40.
“Among the deceased five were women including a mother and her daughter”, said Md Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in- charge of Ruma Police Station.
Quoting rescuers the OC said, “A truck carrying indigenous men and women was going from Boga Lake to Ruma upazila headquarters while another truck from Ruma was heading towards Boga Lake. When the two trucks reached between Komola Bazar and Boga Lake, the collision took place.”
Four women died on the spot. Two people including another woman died in the upazila health complex. All five women were from Bawm community of remote Thaikhong Para in Remakri Prangsa union of Ruma upazila, the OC added.
“Among the injured three were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) as their condition were deteriorating while four were sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital”, said Mohammad Mamun Shiblee, upazila nirbahi officer in Ruma.
