An indigenous woman, who is a mother of two children, was gang-raped on her way back to home from an invitation of Eid at Atarakchhara area of Rangamati’s Langadu upazila on Thursday evening said police.
Following the incident victim’s husband filed a case with Langadu police station on Friday accusing Anwar Hossain Manju and Rubel of the area said Shahnewaz Raju, additional superintendent of police (DSB) of Rangamati.
On Thursday morning, the housewife along with her grandparents went to one Siddique Mia’s house at Atrakchara area following his invitation of Eid-ul-Adha. At around 6 pm, the housewife and her grandparents left Siddique’s house for the Khagrakhia village under Merung union of neighboring Khagrachhari’s Dighinala upazila. At that time, two youths named Manju (25) and Rubel (23) of the area stopped them, the police official said.
Later the two criminals forcefully picked up her to nearby an isolated forest area and raped her, he added.
“We are trying to arrest the alleged rapists”, said the asp.
Nipon Tripura, President of Parbatya Chattogram Pahari Chhatra Parishad and Shanti Devi Tanchangya, General Secretary of Hill Women’s Federation, in a joint statement strongly condemned and demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in this incident.
