Police recovered the body of an elderly woman named Sultana Suraiya with her throat slit from her residence in Tangail’s West Bhuapur of Bangladesh on Friday morning.
The victim is the mother of Abu Shyem Akhund, news editor of The Business Standard newspaper.
Family members of the victim said Sultana Suraiya’s body was found lying on the floor of a room which was locked outside of the house where she lived alone.
Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Md Sharfuddin said the body has been sent for autopsy.
“Primarily, it is believed that she was murdered a day earlier. The details will be known after an autopsy and investigation into the case,” he added.
“We demand proper investigation and exemplary punishment to those involved with the murder of our beloved mother”, the victim’s son Abu Shyem Akhund said.
