Nabyomukush killed yet other 2 UPDF activists in Khagrachhari

Two other members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) were shot dead in Khagrachhari’s Mohalchari Upazila on Wednesday.

The victims Ravi Kumar Chakma, 65, and Shanto Chakma alias Bimol, 52 were UPDF activists, said UPDF spokesperson Aongya Marma in a statement.

Ravi and Shanta Chakma, were killed on the spot at remote Durchhari Para around 6: 30 am by the state-sponsored Nabyomukosh while Rahintu Chakma, another UPDF activist is still missing, said Aongya Marma.

Police went to the scene and recovered the victims’ bodies, said Md Nasir Uddin, officer-in charge of Mohalchari Police Station.

However, Shyamal Kanti Chakma, president of UPDF (democratic) denied their involvement in the “shootout” and said “None of us were involved in killing and termed it propaganda against them.”

Earlier, on December 11, four UPDF activists, including Bipul Chakma, organising secretary of Democratic Youth Forum and former president of Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP), were brutally killed by the state-sponsored Nabyomukosh in Khagrachari’s Panchari upazila.

Police couldn’t arrest anyone yet while the killers are continuously giving death threats who are protesting extra judicial killings in CHT ,said Rupayan Chakma, organizing secretary of UPDF  Laxmichhari upazila unit, in a statement on January 21.

In the last six years, 55 activists and supporters of UPDF and allied organizations have been killed by the state sponsored criminals, said the statement.

On January 3, 2018, UPDF organizer Mithun Chakma was murdered in in Khagrachari town.

On August 18 of the same year, 7 leaders and supporters of UPDF were brutally killed by brush fire in front of the police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members.  

No murderers were arrested and punished yet, said UPDF leaders in a protest rally at Kudukchhari of Rangamati on January 21. 

The speakers in the rally demanded immediate lifting of the undeclared martial law imposed in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) under the name of Operation Uttaran.
