Police detained a Rohingya man on charge of raping a speech impaired indigenous girl at remote Tangkuitang Para area of Rangamati’s Bilaichari upazila on Thursday.
The victim was from Tanchangya community.
The accused was identified as Md. Hassan, 48 who lived in the area, is a porter, said police.
On Thursday at around 10:00 am Hassan entered the Jhum house of the girl, 17 and raped her when she was there alone, said Mohammed Alamgir, officer-in-charge of Bilaichari police station quoting locals.
Locals caught the alleged rapist and handed over him to the law enforcement agency members, the OC said.
“As the place of incident is far away from the upazilla headquarters, it took us a long time to reach there. Today at around 12.30 pm we brought him to the police station”, the OC said.
“A case will be filled under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act against the alleged rapist”, he added.
